North Down athletes had mixed results over the two days of the GloHealth AAAi Senior Championships at the weekend but the highlight came in the very last event of of a tightly packed programme. Adam McComb, Andrew Mellon, John Saulters and Curtis Woods emphatically won the Mens 4 x 400m relay in 3:18.70 min with a winning margin of several seconds. In the 110m hurdles, favourite Ben Reynolds did not start (injury niggle), enabling brother Tom Reynolds to take the bronze medak in 15.12 sec (+0.9). Another bronze went to Rebecca Collins in the womens 5K walk, 3rd in 26:6.67 min. Both 3rd’s were seasons bests.
Michael Dyer ran a seasons best of 1:51.58 min for 6th in the 800m final despite beng blocked and other sb’s went to Curtis Woods who was 3rd in the B 100m final in 11.15 sec and to Kenny Elliott who ran 22.68 in the 200m heats. Curtis ran 49.42 in the 400m heats but did not qualify as did Rachel Gibson with 4:36.11 min in the 1500m heats (Rachel had a wild journey from holidays with a 108 mile to drive to Exeter, flight to Belfast, drive to Hillsborogh and then Santry and unsurprisingly failed to qualify).
Kathy Hetherington narrowly missed a med at discus with 42.80m and putted 9.89m in her only shot competition of the season. Matthew Stockton threw 51.62m for 6th in the javelin. Dennis Scott and Francis Marsh were 9th and 10th in the B 5000m while Alan Kennedy had a disappointing long jump series after injury niggles. Andrew Graham ran 11.48 at 100m but did not qualify.
