The UK Challenge event at Greenmount on Saturday, promoted by Athletics Northern Ireland and sponsored by Antrim Borough Council and McCain will this year incorporate the Celtic International Cross Country with teams from Ulster, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. Saturday”s event is one of eleven IAAF permitted cross country races in the world and is part of the UK McCain Cross Challenge Series. The well-established series is the focus of the domestic endurance running scene over the winter months. The Ulster teams include Robin Brown and Lauren Scott who will compete in the mens” and womens” U23 race which are incorporated in the senior races.Robin is the Cambridge University cross country captain and has had an outstanding season, the highlights being 8th overall and 2nd Cambridge at the Varsity match in 39:50 min for the 7.5m course in Wimbledon Common and 7th U23 in the Inter Counties and Irish trials at Kilbeggan. Lauren is at the University of Birmingham where she has been in good form and competed in the Liverpool leg of the McCain UK Challenge.. She was 14th in the Junior Womens race in Kilbeggan.
