The RunHer Challenge came to the borough on Friday night when over 1200 women ran the coastal 10K from Seapark to Crawfordsburn. In tropical conditions there was a carnival atmosphere in the park though the heat added spice to an already difficult route on crowded paths and difficult terrain. A good run by Julie Balmer in 39:01 min saw her finish 2nd to Cathy McCourt while Debbie Matchett was a good 4th in 40:40. There were six club girls in the top 10, the others being Kerry Speers, 5th in 42:12; the rapidly improving Melissa Eccles, 6th in 43:49; Ali Robinson 9th in 44:22 and Valerie McDonagh, another big improver with 44:28. Loads more names in there – Sarah Benton, Alison Downey, Frances Mitchell, Caroline Riddell, Marie Devine and Kathy Graham to name only a few. Well done to all.
