Congratulations to Craig McMeechan (Bangor Grammar School) who finished 8th in the Ulster Schools Minor Boys XC and will be competing in the All Ireland Schools on Saturday in Galway. Craig has just been informed he has been selected for the NI Schools relay team which will compete in the junior events alondside the London Marathon. In other schools news, the NI Schools have been holding a series of trials for the team which will compete in The UK School Games. Normally an end of season event, in London Olympic year the UK Schools is to be held in May, hence the need for trials and the importance of indoor form. The School Games is to be held in the various Olympic venues with the athletics competition the first event to be held in the main Olympic Stadium. Congratulation to Alex Catherwood (Ashfield Girls) and Andrew Mellon (BGS) who have been included in the team. Alex’s consistent form has won her the highly competive high jump spot and Andrew, who had to miss the 400m trial, is in the 4 x 100m relay.
