[Not a valid template]In perfect conditions there were 4 golds , 5 silvers and 5 bronzes including double gold for Eva Massey and double silver, with two Northern Ireland Junior records, for the ever faster Amy Foster. Brendan McConville returned after a week of physio to win the vault and take 3rd at discus and shot and Jeremy Harper made his first appearance of the season with discus silver. Michael McConkey took the expected 3rd at javelin and followed up by winning shot. Other silvers went to Paul Curran, Thomas Patton and Erin Mullan and bronzes to John Saulters and Erin Mullan. Richard Lockhart was top local at hammer.
Eva won the discus with 42.47m followed by the shot with 15.69, twice exceeding the Commonwealth standard. The only other to break the Commonwealth standard was zoe Brown who also broke the European one with 4.15m in the vault. Anna Boyle did the sprint double but it was Amy”s two seconds that caught the eye – 12.02 at 100m (11.9 hand timed) and 24.30 for 200m. Erin was 3rd in the 100m hurdles with 15.38, a club record taken from her sister.
Brendan won the vault with 4.65m, a result that would have made a big difference a week ago in decathlon terms and had 3rds in shot and discus with 12.54m and a pb of 36.41m. After a shoulder operation to correct Rugby injuries, Jeremy was not yet ready for his specialist shot but took silver in discus with 39.16m. Michael had a javelin pb with 59.02m and was 3rd to the two Commonwealth Games hopefuls. He then won a very good shot competion where the lead switched hands several times by at least four competitors before putting 13.22 on the last round, a triumph for the rotational techniqe also used by David Quinn in 2nd. Hammer medals all went South but Richard was a very good 4th and top local with 44.10m. Richard also did shot and Ben Worthington shot and discus all in the top six.
John and Thomas flew the flag for male track runners, Thomas taking 2nd at 400m hurdles in 54.11 and John 3rd in the flat 400m with 49.96. Paul won silver in the triple jump for the 3rd year in a row with 13.79m and was 6th at long jump . Other jumpers were David Robb, 4th at hogh jump, Jason Blanc, 5th at long jump and Scott McCauley, 6th at triple and 7th at long.
Cogratulations to the rinners in the two Primary School miles where both boys and girls races were dominated by Bangor Central and Kilmaine Primary including several from our current Monday night sessions.
