David McKeague and Mark Weir were back in the Mournes on Saturday 12th August for the NI Mountain Running Association Seven Sevens race. Starting and finishing in Donard car park the race followed the traditional Sevens route over the seven highest peaks of the Mournes summiting Donard, Commedagh, Lamagan and Binnian before crossing the checkpoint at the Ben Crom Dam and climbing Meelbeg, Meelmore and Bearnagh then racing back to the saddle between Donard and Commedagh and following the path back down to Newcastle. Recent rain made conditions even tougher than usual. David finished in 15th place and 1st M45 in 5:02:01 with Mark completing the 18 mile challenge with more than 8100ft of climbing in 6:56:30.
