[Not a valid template]The Belfast International Cross Country took place at the wintriest of wintry Stormonts with defending Champion Moses Kipsiro from Uganda retaining the Senior title, ahead of 2006 winner Barnabas Kosgei of Kenya. England”s Haley Yelling won the women”s elite race with Cathy Butler from Scotland in second place. Despite a lack of foresight in not training in a bog there were good runs across the age groups by North Down athletes and they added to the winter”s growing list of team successes by claiming wins in the U17 boys and U20 womens” team races and second to St Malachy”s in the U20 men race.
Mark Patterson had the best individual run of the day, beaten by only Noel Collins of the Northern Ireland runners, and he led a full strength North Down U17 squad to team victory with the number of scorers counted irrelevant. There was also solid performances from the U20 squad where Robin Brown and Jordan Neil had their own private tussle before Jordan just edged it at the end. The U20 girls also showed improvement as did Mark Armstrong, Glen Willis and Roger Dawson in the junior races.
The seniors also struggled in the conditions but persevered well. James Budde was the only club runner in the International race and went well. In the vets race Fred Murdoch would have been 1st M65 but having entered as over 60 was 3rd M60 while Ken Hawtin was of course 1st M70. Francis Marsh was 4th M40 and Tony Wall 6th M50.
Not forgetting Kayleigh Walsh who was 18th in the Primary School Girls race.
