This year’s interprovincial Schools’ event took place on Saturday 24th June at Santry, Dublin. Ulster representations from the club were Rachel McCann, Murphy Miller, Amy Kimber, Isaac Hart and Troy McConville.
This season, Rachel McCann seems to be getting better and better with every race and this weekend proved no exception. With yet another impressive performance, Rachel shaved a further half second off her PB in the 300m, crossing the line in 40.23s which not only took the silver medal but means she will be part of the Irish team to take on England, Scotland & Wales at the Schools International in July. Rachel later earned a bronze medal as part of the 4x300m relay team that finished third.
Murphy Miller seems to have left her ‘run every race from the front’ days well and truly behind her and has demonstrated an increased tactical maturity this season. Indeed she was comfortable sitting back in the pack for most of the 1500m before she made her move, gradually working her way through the field to take bronze and set a new PB of 4:47.27.
Troy McConville’s chances of a medal were spoilt when he clipped the last flight in the 100mH, however, he still finished a respectable 4th in 14.12s. He later contested the high jump and finished =6th with a best clearance of 1.80m.
Amy Kimber was another to raise her game and set a PB for the big occasion when she threw 29.35m in the 4th round of the discus (1kg) to just miss out on a medal in 4th place but struggled a bit in the javelin (500g) throwing a slightly below par 23.20m to finish 9th.
Isaac Hart was a fraction outside his PB in the 200m, finishing 7th in 23.85s.
