[Not a valid template]A rather makeshift Senior Mens Team had a surprisingly easy win in the first half of the 2006 Teams Trophy and the event will be concluded on 16tth August when a full strength team is likely to be available. As expected the team dominated the field events and althogh the events lacked any depth it was pleasing to see some excellent performances regardless. Jeremy Harper and Michael McConkey took the maximum at shot and javelin, Jeremy extending his club shot record to 13.91 and with a pb in javelin of 45.20 and Michael with 12.23m and 52.64m. Paul Curran always stars in this event and he was first in high and long jumps and 110m hurdles. James Budde and John Carlisle took maximum points in the 800m, John with a pb 2:02.76 and James just outside 2 minutes. Francis Marsh extended his own 3000m vets record with 8:58.23. A sprint relay team of Jeremy, Kris, James and Paul was cobbled together and collected a NIAF 4 x 100m Championship silver medal.
A womens team of Hilary Kernaghan, Kim Shaw, Nicola Simpson and Katie Hewitt did well against stronger opposition. Kim had a good run of 62.73 in her first ever 400m, Nicola did the 800m/400m double, Hilary did the 3000m (after last night”s Les Jones 10K) and Katie covered the throws.
The Sports Council Youth Games (formerly the Golden Cow Games) ran alongside the Team Trophy. Kerry Craig won the high jump with 1.45m, Conor McGrattan was 2nd in javelin with 30.07m and Steven Colwell won the hurdles in 13.00 sec and was 2nd at long jump with 4.89m.
