Tom Reynolds and Welshman David Guest were the big achievers over the weekend in Bedford at the AAA”s of England Combined Events Championships, Guest adding 300 points to his pb to win with 7727 (the best performance by a UK Junior since Daley Thompson in 1977) and Tom adding 424 points to his pb to finish 3rd with 7270 , 20 points behind Ed Dunford, former British No 1 (and Northern Ireland Champion). Tom had the opening day of his career with 11.19 secs in the 100m and then long jumping 7.14m, his second time over 7 metres but unlike Street earlier this season, this time it was legal. A pb of 13.36m at shot followed and then 1.86m at high jump (=pb) and 50.56 sec at 400m to end Day 1 in 4th with 3823 points. For Peter Glass, it wasn”t meant to be. Despite recent hamstring trouble, Pete decided to go ahead but decathlon is unforgiving. His 100m was 11.58 sec (-01), but then he could only manage one long jump (6.15m, +0.2). His shot was good with 13.70m and he had one attempt at high jump but that was it. End of.
