Its anything but the track and field season but Ben Reynolds and Jeremy Harper were both in action at the weekend. In the Irish Schools Multi Event Championships at Santry, Ben was 2nd in the U18 boys hexathlon and goes on to the Schools International in December while at Shercock in the Irish Throwers Club Championships, Jeremy won both the weights pentathlon and the Kugelschoken.
Ben was at Santry for the Irish Schools Multi Events Championships and was 2nd in the U18 boys category. Using different tables from those used in the Ulster Championships, Ben’s results were 100m hurdles 13.4 sec (842 points), LJ 6.13m (615), shot 12.49m (636), 200m 24.0 sec (672), HJ 1.95m (758), 800m 2:17.2 min (861) for a total of 4014 points. His 1.95m high jump was a pb and could well have been more had the bar gone up in the usual multi event increment of 3cms. He now goes on to represent Irish Schools at the SIAB Combined Events International at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow on 8th Dec in which boys high jump is removed due to space constraints
Conor McGrattan was 9th in the U16 boys pentathlon with 80m hurdles 14.5 sec (439 points), LJ 4.70m (326), shot 9.56m (459), 200m 27.2 sec (416), HJ 1.40m (317), 800m 2:17.5 min (487) for a total of 2448 points.
In the weights pentathlon at Shercock Jeremy was understandably down on his in-season form but he won the mens’ event with hammer 32.53m (391 points), shot13.84m (719), discus 42.86m (723), javelin 46.84m (539), 56lb weight for distance 6.68m (269) for a total of 2641 points. He also won the Kugelschoken Championship (modified rotational shot) with 20.99m.
