North Down AC were awarded the ‘Track & Field Club Award’ for 2008, retaining the title they won last year. The club represented Ireland at the European Clubs Cup in May where they had some outstanding performances including three club records. The mens team were narrowly beaten by Clonliffe this year in the final of the All Ireland League while the womens team were runners up in Division 1, both tems winning the Northern Ireland Team Trophy. The awards, in association with UK Athletics and sponsored by Heidsieck & Co Monopole Champagne, were made at a champagne reception at the Mary Peters Track on Thursday by UK Athletics Chairman Mr. Ed Warner. James Budde collected the trophy on behalf of the team. Other awards included John Saulters (New Official of the Year) and Tina Sterling of the Special Olympics Section (Young Volunteer Award).
