[Not a valid template]Despite a few no-shows, North Down had a good spread of competitors in the McCains UK Challenge round at Greenmount College in Antrim on Saturday. The women did not look out of place in the International / Senior race with Roberta Dornan 25thth in 22:16 min, Kerry Iveston 38th in 23:24 min and Stephanie Hambling 42nd in 24:35 min. Francis Marsh was 9th in the vets race in 24:35 min with new recruit Terry Eakin 45th in 28:41 min and George Bell 47th in 28:44 min. The U15 boys were again on their game and were 2nd team with Glenn Willis 15th in 13:37 min, Harry Speers 28th in 14:28 min and Roger Dawson 30th in 14:34 min.
Others to race on a cold dry day were Jessica Craig, Sophie Strutt, Clare Scott, Brian Barron, Jordan Stokes, Andrew McCrae, John Quiery and Sam McKibbin. Stephanie Twell, the triple European Junior Champion won an exciting Senior Womens race from last year’s bronze medallist Deirdre Byrne. In the Men’s 10k event Commonwealth Champion, Boniface Kiprop, lost a shoe at 4 milesand finished two seconds behind Ethiopia’s Jida Merga
