Ulster Schools

Cold, wet and very windy – that was the Ulster Schools at Antrim on Sunday and as last year not helpful to athletes chasing qualifying times.At Senior level North Down athletes Mark Patterson and Niall Robinson were 1st and 3rd at 800m in 1:55.78 and 1:56.90 min respectively while the 110m hurdles went to Ben Reynolds in 14.63 sec. Intermediate medals came from Kerrie Craig, 1st high jump with 1.51m, Katie Dickson, 1st at triple jump in a club outdoor record of 11.09m, Kathy Hetherington, 1st discus and 3rd shot with 34.28m and 8.80m, Sarah Newell, 2nd javelin with 27.42m, Matthew Martin, 1st javelin with 50.57m and Gareth Irvine, 1st discus with 37.76m.  At Junior level Beth Wilson won discus with 32.05 as did Louis Atkinson with 33.42m. Silvers came from Matthew Hamilton at 100m in 12.2, Nico Espana at high jump with 1.55m and Matthew Stockton at javelin with 35.13m. Well done to them all and to the other club athletes who reached the finals, not forgetting many other podium finishes by those coached by our club coaches.

The Irish Schools Championships will be held at Tullamore on 30th June.
