Ulster Schools Championships

[Not a valid template]The majority of events were held on Saturday and though dry, a bitterl cold North Westerly wind proved too strong for good times and too cold for good field performances. Despite this the meeting produced the expected high level of competition. Double golds for Amy Foster, Hannah Lewis, David Keys and Natasha Paxton headed a large list of successes by North Down athletes.

At Senior level Amy did the sprint double with 12.0 and 24.7 (record) at 100m and 200m. Nicola Simpson won the 800m in 2:25.3. Scott McAuley won the 110m hurdles and was 2nd at triple jump and Aaron Stirling won the hammer. Alison Lavery was 2nd at high jump and 3rd at 400m. Erin Mullan was 2nd and 3rd in the sprint and long hurdles and Peter Glass was 2nd and 3rd at shot and javelin. Joe Kingsberry was 3rd at discus and Sophie Reynolds was 3rd at 100m hurdles.

[Not a valid template]In the Intermediates Hannah won long jump with 5.29m and 200m with  25.8 while David added the discus to his overnight hammer success throwing 44.11m. Katie Hewitt put her foot problems to one side and won the 300m hurdles and was 2nd at 80m hurdles. Kiki Malomo Paris and Kim Shaw won the 100m and 300m respectively. Ben McDonnell was 2nd in javelin with 45.29 and Grant Montgomery was 3rd at the long hurdles and Shaun Tinman 3rd at sprint hurdles.

Natasha Paxton had another sprint double in the Juniors winning 100m in 12.60 (new club U15 record) and 200m in 26.3 with Kathryn Colwell 2nd at 200m and 3rd at 100m. Kerrie Craig had a pb of 1.49m despite the conditions to win the high jump. With other good places from many other athletes, it was a very successful Championship for club athletes.
