The Downeys, Chris and Nicola, are on a USA break where the object of the exercise is to attend and participate in as many sporting events as possible. The ladies US Open tennis semi final, where Serena Williams was on her best behaviour, and an American Football game were the spectator highlights.
Running across Manhattan Bridge and back over Brooklyn Bridge, completing the Roosevelt Island DC parkrun in 25:43 – Nicola, and to top it off competing in the 5th Avenue Mile in NYC where Nicola pb’d with 6:21 and Chris a decent 5:15, were great additions to any athlete’s holiday.
Closer to home but equally as popular the Great North Run attracted approximately 43’000 runners on Sunday. Nicole Bell and Chris Ballentine fought with the large numbers and the unexpected hills to complete the course. Unfortunately Nicole was caught up in a delay with an ambulance but Chris managed to avoid the chaos and record a great 1:39.
