One of the most popular 10 milers in the local racing calendar, ideally timed as a challenging race for athletes training for spring half marathons and marathons, the Walled City 10 miler took place in Derry/Londonderry on Saturday 9th March. With race entries capped at 1700 athletes the event sold out well in advance of race day. 8 North Down AC athletes were among the 1587 finishers who followed the testing route from St. Columb’s Park through the Gransha grounds and across the Foyle Bridge before returning on the opposite side of the river along Queen’s Quay and over the Craigavon Bridge and back to the finish on the track at St. Columb’s Park. First of the North Down AC finishers to cross the line and collect one of the biggest finish medals out there was Paul Floyd in 40th place overall in 1:01:28. He was followed by Kim McCourt 1:26:28, Emma Hegarty 1:28:02, Michael Hall 1:29:33 and Sandra Hall 1:32:20. Andrea Green ran the Derry City parkrun as a warmup before a quick dash over the Peace Bridge to the start line and finished the 10 mile race in 1:38:28. Elaine McDonnell 1:40:08 and Glenn Frazer 1:41:17 completed the NDAC line up.
