Run the Trails, Mount Stewart 02/08/25

Another popular event in the running calendar always eagerly anticipated by local runners is Scrabo Striders’ Run the Trails in the grounds of the Mount Stewart estate. Course changes this year enforced by fallen trees ongoing  from the storms earlier this year meant that 10k runners were challenged by an extra climb up to the Temple of the Winds!

In the 2k race the Mair brothers took 1st and 3rd place on the podium with Sebastian winning in 7:37 and Harrison coming 3rd in 8:27. Lucy Kane finished in 10:39

Sarah Connolly was leading the women’s 5k until she was misdirected at the final turn occasioning an additional out and back with the 10k runners before getting back to her 5k course; she still made it to the podium but in 3rd place in 24:16. Selina Patchett also raced the 5k in 29:57.

Sarah Wilson replaced Sarah Connolly on the 3rd step of the podium as 3rd female in the 10k. Kyle McLellan was 2nd overall after battling with the Spanish winner throughout the race, finishing in 36:31. Mickael Lenu was 4th in 40:23. Alan Hartley 47:17, Tim Cooke 48:16, Sarah Wilson 50:16, Paula Simpson 56:35, James Gage 59:46 and Emma Hegarty 1:00:29 also had great races over the tough but beautiful 10k route.

Pat O’Driscoll, Féile an Phobail 10k, 03/08/25

I’ll need to refer to the club statisticians for confirmation, but I suspect that three 10k races in four days may be a North Down AC club record! Pat O’Driscoll’s barely had time to wash and dry his North Down vest before pinning another race bib to the front on Sunday morning at the west Belfast community festival’s 10k road race. Ardglass and the Maze took nothing out of Pat’s legs as he ran this 10k in 1:16:02.
