weekly roundup 14/07/24 – Sarah Gibson With an Chairn Mountain 5k & Termonfeckin Half Marathon, Roberta Dornan – 400M Masters Gold at Scottish T&F Championships, Paula Simpson – Greyabbey 3hr challenge, Fingal 10k.

Rith an Chairn 5k Mountain Race 

Sarah Gibson ran the Rith an Chairn 5k Mountain Race on Friday 12th July. Runners climbed to the summit of the 464m Carn Tóchair before a faster descent to the finish line. Sarah was 3rd F50 in 36:10.

Termonfeckin Half Marathon 

Sarah’s second race of the weekend was a flatter road race – the Termonfeckin Half Marathon on Sunday 14th July. Starting and finishing in the Co Louth town runners headed towards the eastern outskirts of Drogheda before following the River Boyne as far as Baltray and turning back north to the finish line at St Fechin’s GAA club. She had clearly shaken off any fatigue from the mountain race 2 days earlier as she stormed to a 1:30:33 finish taking 2nd place in the women’s race and 24th overall.

Roberta Dornan – Gold Medal in 400m at Scottish Masters

Roberta Dornan took gold in the W45 400m at the Scottish Masters Track and Field Championships in Dundee on Saturday 13th July. Although injury meant that her time was slower than her recent success at the NI Masters , Roberta ran 77.31. Despite a swollen calf Roberta also raced in the 200m finishing in 36.62 to take the bronze medal.

Paula Simpson, Greyabbey 3hr Challenge

The latest challenge from the ever popular Gatehouse Events race organisers was a challenge race in the beautiful grounds of the Greyabbey Estate on Saturday 13th July. Runners set off on a trail of a little over 3 miles and ran continuous loops for 3, 6 or 12 hours. Paula Simpson took on the 3 hour challenge and completed over 14 miles, having already set a PB at Victoria Park parkrun that morning!

 

Stuart Anderson & Brian Geddis, Fingal 10k

North Down AC’s Stuart Anderson and Brian Geddis headed to Swords on Sunday 14th July for the Fingal 10k. The road race forms part of the Dublin Marathon race series and attracted almost 2700 runners. Stuart was the 151st finisher in 39:31 with Brian finishing 4th M65 in 43:47.
