Born 2 Run, Tollymore, 14/2/24
The ever popular Run Forest Run series of 5k and 10k races continued on Saturday 14th December with a hilly 5k and even hillier 10k in the beautiful surroundings of Tollymore Forest Park. As always a good number of North Down AC members made the trip to the Mournes with the club’s star performer on the day being Sebastian Mair who earned a podium spot finishing 3rd overall in the 5k in a superb time of 19:19. Sandra Hall 30:40, Nicole Bell 31:17 and Glenn Frazer 31:33 completed the club’s 5k finishers.
Nine club members tackled the 10k race with Christopher Ballentine leading them home in 47:11 followed by Ben O’Driscoll 47:47 and Sarah Wilson 47:58. Cadey Moore 54:21 pipped Stephen Moore 54:23 to the line ahead of Mick Hall 55:57, Emma Hegarty 56:02, Chris Connolly 56:48 and the man who’s run more 10ks than the rest of the Tollynmore NDAC contingent put together, Pat O’Driscoll 1:22:38.

NDAC Men win the Bobby Farren Memorial Cup at the Derry XC, 14/12/24
After a couple of storm enforced cross country cancellations North Down’s XC runners were raring to get their spikes on and head to the grounds of Thornhill College for the Derry XC.
While the areas around the main sports pitches remained relatively firm the grounds around the perimeter of the course became progressively muddier and more challenging as the day’s races went on.
Primary School and junior races preceded the main open event with North Down AC’s Molly Rankin finishing 11th in the 1000m P6/7 race. In the 1500m U13 race Sophie Rankin was 2nd and Eve Sloan came 6th.
Alex Downey won the U15/U17 race covering the 3k course in 10:30. James Blease ran strongly in 12:18 and Holly Blease finished in 13:02 with Caitlyn Dickenson finishing 3rd U15 girl in 13:25.
Inspired by the superb performances of the junior athletes the senior NDAC athletes lined up for the 6k open race with Craig McMeechan winning the mens’ race in 20:47 and Katie Moore winning the womens’ race in 25:17 . Mark Carberry was 2nd in 21:19. Daniel Dines 22:19 and Oliver Playfair 22:20 also secured top 10 finishes. Luke McDowell 22:59 and Francis Marsh 24:18, were followed by Steven Donegan 24:35, Aaron McAuley 24:47 , Dennis Scott 24:48 and Dean Varley 24:56. Chris Downey 25:03 finished ahead of Sean McLaughlin 25:14. David Massey 26:59 was ahead of M60 winner Philip Mulligan 27:20. Fiona McQuillan was 1st F40 in 27:36. Clair Quigley crossed the line in 28:27 followed by Luke Hamilton 28:55, Valerie McDonough 29:16, Helen Byers 30:48 and Lindsay Doulton 31:33. Glynis Boyle 31:43 was 1st F60 in 31:43 leading a close contingent of clubmates, Olivia Cumming 31:43, Claire Scott 31:44 and 1st F65 June McMinn 32:07. Heather Beattie joined the AG winners finishing 1st F35 in 34:07. Wendy Neely 34:22, Kim McCourt 37:48, Sophie Hamilton 37:59 and Cara Jeffrey 40:35 rounded off excellent individual and team performances with the North Down AC mens’ team winning the mens’ race and the Bobby Farren Memorial Cup and the women’s team finishing a close 2nd.
