Athletics NI sent a team of 8 to this year’s event staged at the Swansea University track. Craig McMeechan was part of the team who were predominately sprinters and raced in the 1500M.
Of the 7 starters Craig’s recent pb of 3:52 featured equal 2nd best behind the Scottish athlete Kane Elliott who has run 3:47 this season. True to form the race was led by Elliott for 3 of the nearly 4 lap race while Craig paced himself in 3rd place for 800M. At this stage the North Down athlete took possession of 2nd position as he passed an English runner and set about closing the 20 meter gap to Elliott. As they closed in on the 250M mark Craig made no mistake as he passed the leader to go on and win the race by a similar 20M gap and record a decent 3:56:13.
