[Not a valid template]In what amounted to his swan song as far as the decathlon is concerned, Brendan McConville was the star performer of a remarkable second day at the Woodford Green decathlon, leap-frogging almost the entire field to finish 2nd. His last day score was boosted by a runaway 1500m 4:24.92 min which amost won the event. Tom Reynolds held his nerve and finished third.
Brendan”s results were 110m hurdles 15.83 sec 752 points, discus 35.44m 573 points; pole vault 4.60m 790 points, javelin 46.96m 544 points, 1500m 4:24.92 778 points to finish on 6796 points. Tom had 110m hurdles 15.43 sec 798 points, discus 32.49m 514 points; pole vault 4.30m 702 points, javelin 44.67m 510 points, 1500m 4:48.33 629 points to finish on 6688 points.
As expected Peter Glass was unable to do the second day but managed to get as far as the discus by starting but not finishing the 110m hurdles. This enabled him to register a discus pb of 39.74m and a nominal 659 points.
The Senior event was won on 6820 points by James Wright of Woodford Green.
