Young Athletes League Nationals

[Not a valid template]David Keys and the young hurdlers were the most successful North Down athletes at the Young Athletes League National Auxiliary Final in Birmingham. David took two silvers with 2nd in the U17 ‘A’ hammer with 41.85m and discus with 39.42m. Matthew Heaney was 3rd in the U15 ‘A’ 80m hurdles with 12.97 secs. Steven Colwell was 2nd in the U13 ‘A’ 75m hurdles in 13.33 secs followed immediately in the ‘B’ event by Jack Campton with 3rd in 15.21.

Matthew Heaney was close to a second medal in high jump, losing out on third place on countback with a pb of 1.60m. Josh Lowry also came close in the U13 1500m, slicing 17 seconds off his pb and finishing 4th.

The return to school was the main cause of the North Down team being severely depleted and under strength which was missing many ‘A’ athletes and nearly all the ‘B’ ones.
