Amy Foster and Jeremy Harper were the North Down AC Athletes of 2006 with David Keys Top Young Thrower and Hannah Lewis again Top Jumper. Friday night saw the end of the track season (multi eventers don”t count, they go on for ever as do schools events) at the annual barbecue and party night hosted by Gillian and Geoffrey. The 2006 trophies were on display with the All Ireland Premier League Mens” title the standout. Standards Awards were awarded along with trophies for the recent Club Championships where all the boys” trophies had joint winners.
Winners at the Club Championships were Niall McGrattan and Michael McComb (primary school boys), Matthew Hamilton and Glen Willis (U13 boys), Conor McGrattan and Jamie Wickens (U15 boys), Mark Patterson and Niall Robinson (U17 boys), Kerrie Craig (U15 girl), Katie Hewitt (U17 girl), and Vicky Clegg(Senior Womanl). Other categories were not awrded as 3 events are mandatory at the Club Championships. Weglarz Trophies covering club support and improvement went to Robin Brown, Michael Patterson, Nicola Simpson, Lauren Scott and Jessica Craig (shared) and Kris Lockhart. With club records continuing to tumble and more athletes competing at a high level there was no shortage of canditates for Athletes of the Year but Amy and Jeremy were outstanding.
Good luck to those heading to Uni and thanks again to Gillian and Geoffrey for a great night. Most track athletes are on their break until October with most middle distance ones in the Valentines on Tuesdays and Thursdays while the light holds.
