The Combined Events Championships for the Ulster Schools was held at Mary Peters on Thursday. The usual progression applies with athletes qualifying for the Irish Schools shortly and then to a Schools International, held indoors, in December. North Down athletes taking part were Sarah Connolly (Glenlola) who came first in all 5 events in the Intermediate girls Pentathlon and Aaron Corbett (Bangor Grammar) who was 3rd in the Intermediate boys 6 event Sextathlon. In the Junior boys sextathlon, Oliver Wakefield (Priory) was 2nd and Martyn Quinn (Nendrum) was 8th.
Sarah ran 12.60 sec at 80m hurdles, did 1.50m at high jump, 7.34m at shot and 5.04 m at long jump, finishing with 2:45.38 min at 800m. She had 2759 points fir 1st.
Aaron did 16.63 sec at 100m hurdles, 9.89m at shot, 5.62 at LJ, 24.89 sec at 200m, 1.58m at HJ and 2:23.66 min at 800m to finish 3rd on 2962 points. Oliver had wins at hurdles, HJ ( a good pb of 1.64m), LJ and 200m and was well in front for the last event before he dropped to 2nd after a dismal 800m. In the same order of events as Aaron but with a 80m hurdles, his scores were 12.64 sec, 8.86m, 5.73m, 25.20 sec, 1.64m and 3:29.0. Martyn did 14.64, 7.60, 4.35, 27.53, 1.45, 2:31.37.
