Northern Ireland Road Relay Championships

[Not a valid template]North Down AC  could not match last year’s turnout of 12 teams but there were 3 womens teams and 4 mens teamses at the Northern Ireland Road Relay Championships on Saturday in Victoria Park In glorious sunshine all teams ran a 2 lap course of 3.38Km with men’s’ teams 4 legs and women’s 3 legs. North Down had 2 podium finishes with bronze going to the Womens Masters B team and silver in the Blue Riband Mens Open to the A team. In the preliminary Junior straight races, Mollie Brown was 1^st in the U13 girls 1600m race in5:59 min, Reece Simpson was 2^nd in the U15 boys 1600m in 5:13 and Lauren Hamilton was 3^rd in the U15 girls in 6:18.

In the womens Open Katie Moore started with 13:33 followed by Ali Robinson in 13:25 fighting for 3^rd place. Helen Ryan  ran the last leg to finish 7^th team in 43:12. For the Masters B team Valerie McDonough opened in 13:40 followed by Jill Aicken in 16:16 and Catherine Roberts in an excellent 13:16 to grab 3^rd place in 43:16. The A team of Marie Devine, Janice Sheppey and Sarah Benton ran 47:33 for 6^th.

Consistency paid off for the Mens Senior A team. Stephen Wylie opened in 10:33 followed by Dennis Scott in 10:55 with the team in 6^th. It opened up in the last 2 legs with Francis Marsh running 10:48 and James Budde in 11:02 passing all but one to gain silver. The B team of Corey Brown, Nick Irvine, Jamie McMeechan and Thomas Simpson were 12^th and 2^nd B team.  In the Masters Mark Weir, Terry Eakin, Simon Robinson and Steve Wise were 13^th and Andrew Muir, Jonathan McGrath, Craig Thornberry and Michael Jenkins were 20^th of the 25 finishing teams.

Primary school – Megan Briggs 1st U13 Mollie Brown – 1st Eve Dawn – 10th John McNally – 4th u15 – Reece Simpson & Craig McMeechan 2nd & 3rd Lauren Hamilton – 3rd Anna McDowell – 4th Nia McNally – 7th.
