Thanks to the current Mayor of North Down who has campaigned tirelessly, Bangor at last has its own parkrun. Drizzly at best and windy and despite the twisting nature of the Ward Park course, there was a huge opening attendance with a record NI opening of 262 finishers, the biggest on the day of the 17 Northern Ireland parkruns. There were 30 finishers with a NDAC affiliation plus a lot of familiar faces in the as yet “unknowns”. Never mind the “timed run” guff, the winners on the day were both North Down AC – Nick Irvine 1st overall in 18:57 min and Kerry Speers 4th overall and 1st lady in 19:42 – only 5 secs off her best at the presumed faster Victoria Park. Other North Down results are summarised below. It would be remiss while on parkruns not to mentio the performance of the youthful Scott sisters at the Waterworks parkrun. Jessica Scott and Anna Scott were 1st and 2nd ladies in20:52 and 21:35 min in a field of 254. Fastest North Down AC athlete of the day was Lloyd Hannigan, who sped round the Ormeau parkrun in 18:16 (parkrun pb) for 5th place.
