AAI Juvenile Awards

The cream of Ireland’s young athletes gathered at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Sat 18th Feb for the Athletics Ireland Juvenile Star Awards, where the guests of honour were Olympic steeplechaser, Kerry O’Flaherty and President of the European Athletic Association, Sven Arne Hansen.  Star Awards, together with a number of special awards, were presented to the best young athlete in each county based on their performances at the 2016 Irish age group championships and as a result of his multiple Irish indoor & outdoor sprint titles and records, Aaron Sexton collected the Star Award for County Down to become the latest in a long list of NDAC winners.

In addition to the Star Award, Aaron also received the inaugural Breda Synott award for best male athlete at the Celtic Games where he won the 200m.  However, it was his final accolade that was perhaps the most satisfying as, despite some fierce competition, Aaron collected the Keara O’Hart trophy as the top young sprinter in Ireland.
