Cultra Challenge 10k

On Sunday 31st January the first running of the Cultra 10K was staged at the unique setting of the Ulster Folk and Transport museum. 457 athletes completed either the 5K or 10K courses with all proceeds from the entries going to the worthwhile cause of Macmillan Cancer Support.

In the 5K race 2 of our Junior middle distance members Nathan Semple and Hollie Massey continued their impressive form finishing 4th (25:13) and 5th (25:17). Well done Nathan and Hollie. Our secretary Clare Russell followed in a fine 18th position on a course which bore no resemblance to any local park runs.

In the 10K race our first athlete in was Jessica Craig finishing 4th overall and taking with it first female, beating her nearest rival by over two and a half minutes. Jessica’s time of 41:39 is reflective of the hilly nature of the course and also the unfortunate instances of misdirection by the marshalls. A little under a minute later was Gavin McGaw in 8th place. Eamon O’Reilly, fresh from his cross country and park run efforts the day before came in 26th, closely followed by Terry Eakin 32nd and another multi eventer, Alan Massey 34th. Andrew Muir came in 45th and Philip Mulligan 54th.

Keith Gilmore, Sarah Benton, Joanne Moran, Donald Smith and Helen Byers all finished inside the top 100 while James Barr, Melanie Patton, Louise Watson and Gavin McConnell completed the ND representation.
