First two days of All Ireland Age Group Championships

 

After a frantic June, the onset of the  July holiday season brings the domestic track season into temporary hiatus but track and field are in full spate across the border.  On Saturday 6th July and Sunday 7th July, the first two of  the Woodies DIY AAI National Juvenile Track & Field Championships were held in Tullamore. On Saturday In the U-15 100m, Oliver Wakefield recorded a pb of 11.73secs (2nd place) to secure the runners up spot behind gold medal winner behind Luke Morris of Newbridge AC who ran 11.70secs. Oliver had another silver medal and another pb at long jump with 5.98m, agonislingly close to his 6 metre goal. On Sunday Niall McGrattan took silver and a pb at U17 javelin with 52.24m, his first time over 50m.

Another medal went at javelin to Michael Gaffney at U16 javelin on Sunday, 3rd with 47.31m. Chloe Johnston is another athlete repeatedly breaking her pb and she was 3rd at U17 400m with 61.11 sec. Aaron Sexton was present on both days and was 4th at U14 80m with a pb of 10.23 sec into a 1.1 headwind and he was 8th at high jump with 1.45m.

Saskia Greer was 8th at U16 100m with 13.27 sec and brother Finlay Greer also 8th at U14 javelin with 27.10m, 1 cm below his pb.
