Last night, Wednesday June 17th, saw the running of the annual Lisburn Half Marathon, 10k and Fun Run hosted by the new Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council. Competitors encountered the usual gridlock around Lisburn with some having to make a last minute dash to the start line. This wasn’t helped by the earlier than publicised start time which upset some of our members.
However, good weather conditions combined with a new, flatter half marathon course, resulted in some good times. In the 10k, category winners Terry Eakin (M65) ran 39:51 and Gary Swenarton (M60) ran 41:48. Lynne Kerr came second in the F50 in 45:43. Special mention also to Julie Balmer who completed the 10k, a mere few months after her hip replacement. Thanks to the support crew of David Seaton and Gemma McAnirn who cheered everyone on from the sidelines.
