More Records for Jeremy

Jeremy Harper, representing the University of Ulster, was again in record breaking form at the Irish Universities Indoor Championships at Nenagh on Saturday and Sunday. Jeremy had a double, retaining his shot title from a year ago with 14.13m and winning the 35lb for distance with 9.29m. Both marks are personal bests and extend his club indoor records. Last year Jeremy won shot with 12.54m and was 4th with 8.25m in the weight. The weight for distance is a Championship Record, beating Eoin Leen"s 2002 record of 9.08m though Leen"s shot record of 16.37m from the same year still stands. Training partner Craig Law (UU) was 5th at shot with 11.08m.

John Saulters (Queens) went for the 400m / 800m double. In the 400m he won his heat in 51.71 sec and was 2nd in the semi final in 51.57 se but did not start the final. The drama came in the 800m where John was 5th In the semi final in 2:02.80 min, which would normally indoors put him in the "B" final. Instead the fastest eight went in a straight final with seven starting. On the tight bends at Nenagh the race inevitably got physical, two runners ended in the sand pit and John got the yellow card.

A good performance by University of Ulster women saw them just miss first place in the points table and while the men were restricted to Jeremy"s two golds and one in the triple jump from Leslie Leung, it was enough for third in the combined table.
