Ben Reynolds and Katie Hewitt made it a double for Sullivan Upper when they won the Ulster Schools Intermediate Championships at a rainy and blustery Mary Peters. Both made light of the conditions and go on to the Irish Schools event at Santry on 30th September. Ben after 2 years in the wilderness due to injury had massive improvements to his pbs at high jump (up 9 cms to 1.85m), 80m hurdles and 800m (invalid due to whistle starts but more than 20 secs off his 800m pb) and his six event score. He looks a strong bet to be North Down’s lead high jumper next season. Katie was unopposed but in multi event fashion got on with it and increased her last years performance in all events with a 5.10m long jump the best result.
Matthew Heaney (Campbell) was 4th in the Inter Boys and Kerrie Craig (Strathearn) 8th in the Junior Girls events, both missing the cut for the Irish Scools..
