East Antrim Marathon Series

The latest race in the EAMS was on Sunday 1st May. Whether the date was arranged to give runners an alternative to competing in the Belfast Marathon 24 hours later or to offer an additional event to the bank holiday event, the race attracted large numbers.

Cara Hamilton, having completed the Connemara marathon in horrific conditions, enjoyed the tranquil surroundings of Carrickfergus in relatively spring like weather. Cara fell into the double marathon category with Belfast looming in fancy dress, and adequately covered the course, hopefully fresh for the next day’s marathon.

Marathon expert and global practitioner, Robert Martin also took to the streets of Carrick in preparation for the Belfast event the following morning. Having completed Dusseldorf in a time of 3:24 last week Robert was happy to make it in marginally over the 4 hour mark in preparation for the second part of his 52 mile running weekend.

Pat O’Driscoll competed in the half marathon event to continue his commitment to the EAMS races, albeit he wisely decided not to undertake the longer distance the following day. Pat identified that the wind was behind him 50% of the race, good positive thinking
