56 club members gathered in Castle Park for the annual Smith Shield Handicap race. Congratulations to Ivan Mellon being the first club member to cross the line.
The handicap race was run over an interesting loop covering marginally short of 2K making the 3 laps just short of 6K. Despite it approaching the end of April, as runners made their way past the flag pole in front of the Town Hall the bitter North wind reminded us of the recent cross country season, Cookstown, Lurgan, Greenmount brrrr…..
Most of the 56 runners finished within a short time band with the handicappers, David Seaton and Clare Russell, assessing the abilities of the runners just right.
Afterwards, warmed up by tea and coffee in Bangor Aurora, the XC awards were presented for the most recent season. Our Chair person Valerie McDonough presided over the events introducing each of our winners with a well documented account of their achievements and successes throughout the cross country season.
